THE COMMUNICATIONS SECTOR AT A GLANCE

THE COMMUNICATIONS SECTOR AT A GLANCE

,

The NRM government has placed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as one of the key drivers of efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery, production processes and communication. Uganda Communications Commission (the Commission) seeks to promote the development of a robust communications sector in Uganda. ICTs are playing a significant role in achieving the overall goal of the 2016 Manifesto that is “Taking Uganda to Modernity through Job-creation and Inclusive Development”.

The communications sector in Uganda has thrived on the conducive investment environment provided by the NRM government and the guidance of H.E. President Yoweri Museveni to register great success in the development of the sector. Three years into the implementation of the 2016 Manifesto, the Communications sector is highly competitive, has achieved increased investment, increased contribution to government revenue and provided employment for Ugandans. The achievements we celebrate are highlighted below

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) was established under the legal framework of the Uganda Communications Act No. 1 of 1997 and the Electronic Media Act of 1996. Consequently, UCC operates as an integrated regulatory body overseeing various sectors, including Telecommunications, Data Communications, Broadcasting, Postal Communication, Radio Communication, and Infrastructure services throughout Uganda. It is also tasked with the responsibility of licensing operations of cinematography theatres and video or film libraries in Uganda.
